Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) yesterday hiked car prices by up to Rs.10,000. The company said in a statement that the move had become necessary in light of rising input costs and the devaluation of the rupee. The newly launched Maruti A-Star is now costlier by Rs.10,000, while the Maruti Swift’s prices across different variants have risen by Rs.5,000-6,000. The Swift DZire is also costlier by Rs.7,000 and the SX4 by Rs.9,000. The prices of other Maruti models - Maruti800, Maruti Omni, Alto, WagonR, Zen Estilo, Grand Vitara, Versa and the Gypsy - remain unchanged.
Maruti’s biggest rival, Hyundai Motors is also considering an increase in car prices. General Motors (GM) India and Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) had hiked prices earlier this month.
