GM Gears Up For New Launches

Details General Motors India Pvt Ltd is planning to launch its Cruise model and a mini car during the current year, besides launching products that are powered by alternative fuels like CNG, LPG. The new product launches, company officials feel, will trigger enthusiaism and demand from the customers even during the current economic slowdown.

Speaking to the media during the launch of Chevrolet Captiva Automatic+here on Tuesday, Karl Slym, managing director and president of GM India said, the overall automotive industry has seen tough times especially during the last quarter. In 2008, when the industry showed a negative growth of 2%, GM India registered a 10% growth in its sales. The sales growth in GM India was primarily driven by Captiva (manual) which was launched in the beginning of 2008 and by Chevrolet Spark to a certain extent. During the current year also, the company is planning to introduce its Cruise model by mid-2009 and a mini car by the end of the year. The government, to beat the downturn, has come out with stimulus packages. We hope to see some improvement by mid-2009.

Talking about Chevrolet Captiva Automatic+, P Balendran, vice-president (corporate affairs) of the company said, the product is all about economical, refined and power pacled diesel performance combined with spacious luxury and fantastic road presence. It is priced at Rs 20.30 lakh (ex showroom). In Chevrolet Captiva (manual) which was launched in beginning 2008, the company had registered sales of 2,500 units and we expect the same sales numbers for Chevrolet Captiva Automatic+, he said
