Maruti Suzuki Swift becomes fastest to reach 3-lakh milestone

NEW DELHI, February 17, 2009: Maruti Suzuki’s all-conquering hatchback Swift has just added another feather to its crown by becoming the fastest car model to reach the 3-lakh milestone.

Launched in May 2005, the sporty car achieved this feat in only three years and eight months.

On the occasion, Maruti Suzuki’s Managing Executive Officer (Marketing and Sales), Mayank Pareek said, “Swift represented the first Suzuki world strategic model produced in India. Built on a brand new platform, Swift marked a radical new trend in Suzuki design, representing a new philosophy and fresh thinking at Suzuki Motor Corporation. It was targeted at the discerning customer who, while valuing the traditional Maruti Suzuki attributes of fuel efficiency, reliability and performance, also desires contemporary looks and attitude in the vehicle.”

To commemorate the occasion, Maruti Suzuki has taken a unique initiative to bring all proud Swift owners on a common platform by setting up an online club called ‘Swift Life’ for all Swift-owners. Maruti invites all Swift owners to visit www.swift-life.com, join the online community, interact with like-minded people, and share their experiences.

The Swift is available in Petrol and Diesel engine options and Maruti Suzuki has scaled up its production to meet the customer demands.

While it is popular amongst customers for its path breaking styling and its sporty drive, Swift’s superior fuel efficiency has added to its allure among customers. As per the ARAI certified fuel efficiency, the Swift Diesel covers 21 kms in one litre of Diesel while the Swift Petrol runs 15.9 kms to a litre of Petrol.

The Maruti Suzuki Swift has shown a continuous growth year-on-year.

3rd One lakh units in under 11 months

Back in 2005, the Swift’s launch not only created a new ‘A-2 premium’ sub segment, it was immediately hot-listed by the media and industry. Accolades followed by the dozens (please see annexure for details), and the super-car won the Car-of-the-Year in as many as 11 countries, including India, for its path-breaking looks and styling, superior safety features and its ability to balance a dynamic driving experience with a comfortable ride.

The design of the car was, in fact, inspired by bikes and motorsports. Suzuki Motor Corporation, a leading global player in motorbikes and an active participant in international motorsports, had used its sporting experience while designing the Swift. This influence is evident in all aspects of the Swift, whether it is the external looks and styling, the interiors, the driving pleasure, the ride and handling or the safety and security features of the vehicle. Based on the latest European design and styling, built with Japanese quality and precision, and utilizing Indian engineering capability, the Swift has an evergreen universal appeal. A group of 25 Maruti Suzuki engineers had worked with their counterparts in SMC Japan for the development of this successful car.

The launch of the Swift Diesel in January 2007 – the engine setting new benchmarks for diesel engines in India – increased the fan-following further.
