Ford India and MCRT's Sanjeevi Medical Centre celebrates a decade of community service in Maraimalainagar

New Delhi, 5 March 2009: On March 5, 2009 Sanjeevi Medical Centre, a primary healthcare unit set up jointly by Ford India and '94' Madras Cosmopolitan Round Table (MCRT) in 1999, culminated the month-long celebrations of its 10th Anniversary today.

The special event saw Government of Tamil Nadu's Health Secretary - Mr.V.K.Subburaj, Mr.Sakthivel Raja, Area II Chairman, Round Table India, along with Michael Boneham, president & managing director, Ford India, attend the celebrations.

Sanjeevi Medical Centre, situated right outside the Ford India plant on the national highway, at Maraimalainagar, provides free medical consultation, treatment and medicines and to villagers from 20 adjoining villages. The medical centre run by a team of six including two qualified doctors, two nurses and two helpers has close to 56,000 registered patients and has treated more than 2,70,000 patients till date.

The medical centre offers primary healthcare services to an average of 2500 visiting patients per month and also holds quarterly medical camps. In addition, general medical check-up of school students of surrounding villages are carried out and first-aid kits have been placed in these schools, monitored regularly and maintained by the village health worker.

In collaboration with 'Huma Shasun TB Care and 'Rotary Club of Madras -South West', various awareness activities in the fields of HIV AIDS, TB and Sexually Transmitted Diseases were conducted quarterly.

''We are proud of the initiative and it aims at providing basic healthcare to people living in the vicinity of the Ford plant,'' said Boneham

The month-long celebrations were marked by a cardiovascular camp held on February 15, followed by the Gynaecology Camp on March 1 and culminating with a Tuberculosis Camp on March 5. In addition, urine sugar tests were conducted. Ford India believes in encouraging Ford employees to volunteer for its various CSR activities, and saw a large numbers to volunteers indulging in cleaning, fencing and painting of the medical centre recently. In addition, an HIV-AIDS awareness booth was set up at the centre at Sanjeevi during this period by volunteers.

Ford India, along with MCRT on the 10th Anniversary will be extending the medical centre by building a multipurpose room which will be used to offer additional medical service within the Sanjeevi premises. These services will be offered free of charge. Lancor Holdings Ltd. is sponsoring the construction of the multipurpose room and Mr. R. V. Shekar managing director, Lancor Holdings, along with Michael Boneham laid the foundation stone of the multipurpose room.

Neville J Bilimoria, Chairman MCRT said, ''Ford India has been supporting Madras Cosmopolitan Round Table 94 for a decade now and we hope to continue this enduring relationship to support Sanjeevi Health Care centre and the people of Maraimalainagar.''
