GM India sets all- time high sales record January, 2010 sales grow by 139% at 9,421 units

New Delhi: Riding high on the success of the popular Chevrolet brand, General Motors India has registered a record growth of 139 % in sales in January 2010, compared to the corresponding period last year. It sold 9,421 units in January 2010 against 3,937 units in January last year, making this the highest-ever monthly sales figure achieved by GM India since its inception.

The January, 2010 sales comprise of 3,477 units of Chevrolet Spark, 2,825 units of Chevrolet Beat, 1,512 units of Chevrolet Tavera, 686 units of Chevrolet Cruze, 434 units of Aveo U-VA, 364 units of Aveo, 72 units of Chevrolet Captiva and 51 units of Chevrolet Optra.

Chevrolet Beat has become the industry benchmark and a winner among consumers in India, with its best-in-segment design, performance and safety. Having received an overwhelming response from consumers, Chevrolet Beat has already clocked over 10,000 bookings in 24 days since its launch. Other car lines have also registered impressing growth during the month.

The mini car Spark continues to receive rave reviews in the market as well and it has emerged as the most sought after mini car in terms of styling, performance, fuel efficiency, value for money proposition and other product attributes.

Commenting on this impressive performance, Mr. P Balendran, Vice-President, GM India said, “Introduction of two best-in-segment cars from the 300 series, increase in customer outreach through distribution network, our unique value proposition like Chevrolet Cashless Ownership offer on Spark and our promise to deliver quality, performance and safety are the factors that have led to this month-by-month escalating growth rates. This consistent sales growth shows the customer belief and confidence in Chevrolet.”

The response to our latest offerings from the 300 series, the Cruze and the Beat, has been overwhelming and we are certain that these will further provide an impetus to Chevrolet’s growth in the Indian market”, he added.

GM India is now in the process of further ramping up its production by adding the third shift at its Halol plant and second shift at Talegaon plant to meet the increased demand of its products. The company is also rapidly expanding its sales and service network to 300 locations across the country by the end of this year from the present 204 outlets to support the market demand of its cars.
The company had also introduced a number of industry first programmes including a centralized 24x7 call centre to attend to customer complaints and provide information related to our products and services. A local call to 3030-8080 from any landline or mobile phone across the country can access this service. Other industry first programmes introduced by GM India include unmatched product warranties/ guarantees, a 24x7 breakdown helpline service, Chevy U-First Camps, and also its unique “Cost of Ownership” program to further bolster the excellent ownership experience of Chevrolet vehicles
