French carmaker Renault will launch its entry level SUV, the duster in the latter half of 2012. Duster will be Renault’s fourth launch in India, succeeding Renault Fluence, SUV Koleos, and a new hatchback (which is scheduled to be launched by January 2012). Duster will be manufactured at Renault’s Chennai plant and would be heavily localized to keep the prices in check. The low cost SUV from the Renault’s fleet is expected to cost less than Rs. 10,00,000. The SUV will be available in 4x2 and 4x4 versions and would bear a lower price tag in comparison to Renault’s SUV Koleos. Speculations are the Duster will come with a 1.5 litre four-cylinder common rail turbo diesel engine in its belly.
