Audi drives in new A8 at Rs 89L

NEW DELHI: Luxury carmaker Audi drove in its new A8 sedan in India, priced at Rs 89 lakh ( Delhi ex-showroom), and said it expects full-year sales to top over 4,500 units, showing a 50% growth.

The German car major, a part of the Volkswagen group, is rapidly expanding in India and is the third-biggest luxury carmaker after BMW and Mercedes. "The Indian market is expanding rapidly and Audi wants to enhance its product line-up to grow exponentially in the market," Audi India MD Michael Perschke said.

The company sold 3,003 units in the Indian market last year and said it has plans to expand its network. "In 2010 we maintained the Number 1 position in Europe and China. Audi also became the fastest-growing luxury brand in the US and India. 2011 will see Audi India announcing many initiatives on product and network expansion," Perschke said. The A8 sedan competes with models like Merecedes S-Class and BMW 7-Series. Audi's range in India includes the A4 and A6 sedans and Q5 and Q7 SUVs.
