Date & Place 04/11/2008 Kolkata/ Berhampur Publication Business Standard

Contrary to the eight cent drop in its all India sales in October this year, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), the domestic passenger car leader, has posted a 41 per cent growth in its sales in the Orissa market in the same month.

MSIL posted an all time high sales volume of 747 units across all its models in the Orissa market in October this year, thereby getting past its previous best sales figure of 616 units recorded in May this year.

It may be noted that MSIL’s pan India sales slid by about 8 per cent from 64,258 units in October 2007 to 59,127 units in October this year.

Maruti Suzuki has sold 747 units of all models in Orissa in October this year and has recorded an all time high sales in the state, Rohit Kohli, area manager (Orissa) of MSIL told Business Standard.

According to Kohli, the sales growth in the Orissa market came on the back of high demand for fuel efficient cars across all models, good ground level work by the dealers and the company’s efforts to ensure customer satisfaction.

Maruti’s sales growth in the state was led by its popular and fuel efficient Alto car which clocked sales of 252 units, followed by Wagon-R at 190 units and Swift at 111 units.
