NEW DELHI: Faced with a downturn in the automobile sector, India and Germany have inked an agreement to undertake cooperation in various fields of the sector to jointly overcome not only short-term but also long-term challenges posed by the current economic slowdown and recession through technological innovations and research.
A joint working group (JWG) on the automotive sector has been formed under the Indo-German Joint Commission on Industrial and Economic Cooperation to provide a framework to generate synergy in the sector for mutual development.
“The German auto industry has been hit hard by the global economic downturn and our auto sector is also not insulated. Therefore, this initiative between our countries is even more relevant and essential today,” Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Minister Santosh Mohan Dev said here while addressing the first meeting of the JWG.
